Robocallers
We don't get a lot of robocalls anymore thanks to the fact that we're no longer on a POTS line anymore and the blocklist service included in our VoiP package. One of the few that still show up are "The Duct Cleaning Service". I assume that's their "doing business as" name since that's how they always identify themselves when they call (from a local number, I may add). But we don't talk to them. We don't interact at all except to note the number and ban it from all future incoming attempts.
I don't even know what to do with that, but I fear I'm raising a monster.
I mention this because I have no idea how tonight's bit of foolishness came about.
After we had finished reading bed-time stories James and Daniel both were horsing around in James' room. We were letting them burn through their energy and weren't paying that much attention. Around 8pm I wandered by the room only to see Daniel with James' foot pressed firmly against his ear. This "foot phone" has been a thing for about a week now, on and off, and I assume it came from school via some other kids who are being forced to watch reruns of Get Smart by their parents.
At the time I was walking by James' bedroom, though, I got to hear this exchange:
Daniel: Hello? Hello?
James: Hello there, I was just calling to see if you were interested in buying a new furnace.
I don't even know what to do with that, but I fear I'm raising a monster.
Ok, playing telemarketer is a a new one for me. If they start playing used car salesman or African dictator, you may have a problem.
ReplyDeleteJust a heads up those telemarketers, not your boys, are likely spoofing the local number they call from. So blocking that number will have minimal positive effect.
