I'm pretty sure these two have nothing to worry about, Santa surely will make a stop by the farm for them.

A different kind of request

During our summer vacation, one of the throw-away ideas I had for us to do while in PEI was to go to Brackley and watch a movie at one of the few remaining Drive-Ins.  Seemed like something that'd be exciting for the boys and kind of nostalgic for me. Jumping tracks for a moment here, Daniel is settling in well at school.  He's pretty social, so after the first week of adjustment he's been generally enjoying his time there.  Though he does love being at home, I think he's really getting an itch scratched by the opportunities for dramatic play at school, where he can pretend to be a character from his books and act out the stories. Lately I've been having a difficult time telling, honestly, if he's getting to watch videos on Youtube of some of his favourite stories (like  this, maybe ) or if he's just thinking that reading books can also be something you watch movies of, since we have so many books at home that are based on movies (like our vast array of ...

That Guy!

I was going to write something completely different here.  And I wasn't going to write anything tonight.  But today was a momentous occasion.  We have a graduated level of rewards for going to the potty, the highest level had been a Kinder Surprise.  Seemed like a good level, both chocolate and a silly little toy or game in a very large package.  Surely enough to get a little boy excited about making his next big step into adulthood. We failed in a couple of ways, though.  When Christine took the boys out east, she left the Kinder Surprises here.  So I brought some.  And we forgot them at Dad's place when we left. sigh So back at her family's place I took James out for us to pick a reward together.  We picked "That Guy" from Bulk Barn.  That guy being a plastic M&M candy dispenser (maybe? container for sure) with an M&M dressed up for Halloween in a wizard's cap and robe and carrying a propeller ... because ... wizards. I need, I need, I neeeeeeeeed!

The title could honestly apply to nearly anything Daniel sees these days, particularly anything James has or is looking at or that Daniel thinks James is thinking about, but in this particular case it refers to the near total meltdown that happened at the start of dessert after supper tonight. But we need to back up a bit first. The week before last Daniel came down with an utterly MISERABLE flu.  The kind of bad that on Sunday morning Christine took him to CHEO because he was significantly dehydrated.  (I originally wrote "severely" in there, but that's not true.  Erin's son Alex had the same flu and he became severely dehydrated, Daniel wasn't nearly that bad.)  By Tuesday he was over it and by Thursday he was back to eating a bigger breakfast than James and I put together, but on Friday of last week the other shoe dropped.  Around four on Friday morning James barfed and was down for the weekend and the bulk of this week.
